The following is an excerpt from Real Talk:an Introspective by Shawn "Enoch" Williams...chapter 7
'....so this podcast is about to be a wrap....nobody bought the download of my Enochulated e.p.
                Well... not exactly nobody,
two people did, but I know them personally and they would have done so even if I had never asked.
But as for the thousands of subscribers to the podcast worldwide, several of whom have portable devices to listen
to it on, none of them...'
So after I ranted, I repented. The Sunshine was always and always will be a gift to you the listeners.
A gift is given without contingency, this one should be no different. It's just that times have been
hard and somewhere in my mind I figured that some people might buy a download seeing that I'd been
giving away a free mix, from music that I'd bought, for two years now. You know... keep it moving, support,
etc. I'm sure that times are rough all over, so who am I to say if or when someone is blessed
enough to bless me. Mine'll come later. And I'm done.
This ep, after a month of silence reemerges with a vengeance, and a campaign against the ignorance and
violence that is running rampant on the planet. Recently an icon in the nightlife community of St. Louis
was struck down by a stray bullet in an act of senseless violence. This man was no other than Lee "The
Rose Man" Nixon, whom you could depend on seeing at a club or event near you, selling and giving away
roses to those that could use a smile. My live show on June 29th will pay tribute to Mr. Nixon and a portion
of the proceeds will be donated to his loved ones. Please, if you can, come out and support the Nu Music
Movement and this effort to rid ourselves of the element that inhibits our growth as a species and peace
                around the globe.
PreauSeed(pronounced proceed) highlights include Nu music from I,Ced featuring Coultrain, love truly does have meaning.
Nadirah said that peace is Just a Breath Away, I concur. My career and gift to you is one that echoes the fact and words of
Patrice Rushen, there is a message in the music.
                Thasswhassup, enjoy!

I was reminded (by myself) that of all of the genres that I DIG, Jazz
has been my first and longest running true love. We've been acquainted
since the early 70's fusion and contemporary styles kept folks groovin,
in an unpretentious sorta way. Acts like Ronnie Laws and super vibraphonist
Bobby Hutcherson made it possible for the Tom Brownes and Nathan Haines
to simultaneously groove with free tunes that don't follow mainstream guidelines,
and don't fly over your head in rigidity or obscurity. My new love... is
Broken Beat, new school acidic jazz with drum patterns that challenge the
standards. DKD and Shuya Okino demonstrate eclecticism with ease. Dilla phones
home to Erykah while Finley falls into solitude;what a wonderful way to end the day.

enjoy

I had to pull out some gems that have sat for too long on the shelves and put them back into play. The Heavies keep the horns and the bass steady, Miles says Shhh in a silent kind of way, there's Straight Magic in Montego Bay and fluid to Submerge in just in time for the Spring Eqhuinoch's. My foot is all in this one, please return any toes you may find along the way. Also, if you find it in your heart to help keep shows like this alive, have a full listen to the songs from my E.P.,"Enochulated", and purchase one or all of them from my store on myspace.com/enochisreal. The whole thing is reasonably priced and as groovy as you've known this show to be, featuring the singles M.U.D.(most under-recognized dj), and "South Side of Chicago", two hot dance tracks to lose yourself to. There are two Acid Jazz joints as well called "No Class" and a reinterpretation of a classic Coltrane tune, respelled as "Eqhuinoch's"(a combo of my name and my reiki master's).
And... the 'bareskinrub' version of the song is the perfect way to end the day, wind down to, and chill with cosmic chords from Marcus Leonard, santana strings from Tracy Mitchell and the harrowing horn of Lamar Harris. I don't say these things to flatter myself of fluff you up, it's simply the truth. Please enjoy, and thank you in advance.

Knocturnal Sunshine: Abyssyllabic, pt.1

It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you...without the Sunshine to step to... and I'm sorry for it. Lots has happened since my last post, so we'll celebrate the best of that lot. The 'highly anticipated'(don't you love that expression?) debut E.P. called "Enochulated" from yours truly has finally emerged and is available for purchase for the Real music lover in you. In this show, I put a little at the beginning and a little more at the end as a preview for those of you that haven't heard it. And speaking of you whom haven't heard, I must thank you all again for your continued support and subscriptions to this podcast, wherever you may be on the planet.
So what have we here? The grooves run deep in the acidic lava of jazz, polyriddims in numerous tongues, hence the term, abyssyllabic. As a matter of fact, it ran so deep, and since I was so backed up with my eagerness to post, I had to break it into two segments. In the first leg we go from the congo to the ghetto with joints from two Marks,a Kellee and the late Donny with my fave being the 4 Hero remix of Space Lion from Cowboy Bebop(peace to Kenny Kinds). Be careful where and when you listen because two of these songs are really hypnotic and may induce a trance-like state, no bull. and then we move on...

<itunes:summary>It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you...without the Sunshine to step to... and I'm sorry for it.
Be careful where and when you listen because two of these songs are really hypnotic and may induce a trance-like state, no bull. and then we move on...

this Sunshine ep had to reflect the depths of my collection
and to prove once and for all that I'm not a Neo-Soul deejay,
or a sock hop deejay, or a smooth one. I am in fact, a nerd,
geek and addict for groove no matter where it comes from.
Exemplified by such fine acts as Jay-Z(just in case you thought
I wouldn't, I will), N.E.R.D.(for Kenny Kinds), Bilal(screaming
obscenities with pops and skips) and the ever-gritty sound of Sharon
Jones. Nu highlights include Coultrain's Girl of his dreams, Healing
from E.Badu, a Shot of Crown on the rocks wit Jill and an acidic blast
from the past on the end from Portishead and Roy "ThirdEye" Ayers.

Drum N Bass and Soul music, sprinkled with Acid Jazz from a global perspspective, a perfect match made in heaven. My faves just so happen to be Roni Size's "Share The Fall" and "Do You Know Where You're Coming From" by Jamiroquai. Tell me what yours are after you've given it a listen. ENJOY...

Knocturnal Sunshine: A.I.G.E.?.

me to never do, which was make an exclusive mix for someone
customized with a theme. I had been instructed that doing this
regularly would surely put me out of business because if people
can have what you do on a CD, then there'll eventually be no need
to hire you for your services. I'd done pretty good thus far in
almost never acutally doing it for anyone, and as it seems I stay
pretty busy having my day job, spinnin' for a livin', really be a night job.
The point...is that this mix was exclusively done for an unnamed
person for release with an unnamed publication to be, and for some reason I'm
having doubts as to whether this mix is good enough to do the trick because
I haven't heard back from this person regarding it's approval to move forward.
Hence the acronym A.I.G.E.?.(am I good enough?).
So my challenge to you, the baskers of the Sunshine, is to offer me some
constructive criticism as to how this mix flows and whether or not
it does the trick for you. It's comprised of Soul and Jazz from a few of my favorites,
Omar, Erykah, and King(Britt), new joints from Jill and Jesse(thetruth), things that I never play out, and was designed to suit multiple purposes.
PLEASE LEAVE ME A COMMENT AND SPARE NO MERCY.
and by all means...
enjoy!

The first show of 2008 is a like a misfit kid on Sesame Street, a.k.a. 'doin its own thing'.
So since I have way more records than I have venues to play em at, you, my friends, must
absorb the weight and the fury of my artistic frustration. The sound and theme of the show
is defined here. There will be no smoothness in Acid Jazz in the form of Mashi and Miles,
Afro Latin rhythms from Nuyorican and Osunlade, Bossanova from St.Germain and Jazzanova,Broken
Beats from Shurikan and Oba, and
Nu Soul from the Rich and Tortured. The oxymoronic Beatless also gives a beatfilled showing and

and "Knocturnal Sunshine" has become a staple for music lovers
in various cities all gettin down for the funk of it. Just this
past Saturday, the show was recorded live with an audience for the
first time and is now here, uncut and unaltered jus 4 u.
This show is different than what you're used to hearing because
I did no annoucing during the recording, nor did we write the playlist.
What we did do was make sure the people in the room with us were
having a good time and made sure we had the right next record.
K-9, turntablist extremus, is the reigning champ in St.Louis as far as
cutting,beat-juggling, and scratching go. He often plays with Nite Owl
and Team NITRO in a Hip Hop band, reminiscent of the Roots. He also holds
down Herb N Soul at the Upstairs lounge for several years now: humble as
he can be, but a beast on the wheels. He held back nothing for the Sunshine
and I was indeed grateful to be playing alongside him. We banged it out with
Hip Hop, Soul, and Dancehall and had way too much fun, going back and forth between our
two sets of Technic 1210s. A bit LONGER than usual... 2 hours to groove to.
'Kick this one here for me and my diggy-diggy deejay!'

that Knocturnal Sunshine has just completed it's 1st year

So, to all of you across and abroad, i sincerely thank you for checkin in,back,

and to you witin 50 miles of this seemingly budding scene in an almost
metropolitan city, i encourage you to come out and celebrate it with me on
the last saturday of this month, and pe part of the live experience.
it'll be like havin a deejay in your livin room. details on the artwork for this ep.

as for this show, it's always hard to decide what'll go in and what'll be left for
another time. as i come up with combinations or mini-sets, lots of stuff will
sound good as i warm up the tables, but once the machine gets oiled, any song could
get snatched off the platter within 20 seconds of the closing of the last one
and thus the flow is rerouted down another groovy stream. Such was the case with Ronnie
Laws for instance. I totally had another song ready to go and was like nope, cuz
I remembered wantin to drop the sample for "Who Got the Props"via Buckshot. Peven Everett
rappin on "High Life" was another where I forgot to take the song back to the top
after previewing it and after leaving yet another joint stranded within scoring position.
songs with a purpose would be the first and last for Beautiful Joy, "I Want You" and "I Tried".
do not try this at home, highly addictive.

thanks once more
enjoy...

you won't be disappointed. Just so you know, Knocturnal Sunshine is recorded
straight to my laptop's hard drive and is comprised of music from my private vinyl
collection. It is mixed straight thru and at times staticky, prickly and full of
pops from the original plates and contains no subsequent editing, or cutting and pasting
'portions' of the mix. I don't use an MP3 interface and I may drop no more than
3 songs from CDs(only 1 this time), with no pitch control. What's the point of all this?
I say this to let you know that this show is done purely from my heart and Soul, and stays
true to this art form called deejaying. For the record,I am not against technology I may
eventually get Serato's Scratch Live but if and when I do, gone will be the days
of diggin through shelves, boxes, and crates looking for the perfect beat, a pastime
of mine for over 30 years now. I won't be able to hand the sleeve over to an inquiring
mind asking about 'that one song' or show the artwork, release year and personnel.
You won't feel that warmth in your chest that you know is there, but can't explain. There
won't be 'record' stores anymore, just digital files.
Life will then be guided by artificial intelligence like in the Matrix and Terminator movies,
and virtual reality will be the norm.
I don't mean to demonize any of this stuff, but I will say that I don't do this for money, to impress
my deejay friends and comrades, or to have groupies givin me head in a Hummer;
it is in fact all for the love of music.
I truly do hope you can feel it.

to most mainstreamers, they'd be like 'what(?).' Exactly....! Two of my faves, Amel and
The Roots round up the early part of this century, a blast from the past appears via
"The Mo Betta Blues" soundtrack. Other highlights include Jurassic 5 plus Triple P again(lovin those cats)
from the states, and then there's 4 Hero and Stereolab from Europe.
Since this mix is laced with Acid Jazz and atmospherics,
there'll be no need for hallucinogenics. Now...
take a ride.

Hector Lavoe), I was moved to get a mix
that featured some Latin influenced grooves and my Soul wouldn't rest
until I did, AZUCAR! Plus...I've been itchin' to play "I Got You",just one of the triple P cuts
featuring the super smooth Tiombe Lockhart.
Three of the songs that appear in this ep(Cloud 9,La Candela, Q&A) are the first time I've spun them for
anyone, including me, so...it's my pleasure to be experiencing em' with you
wherever you may be. Speaking of where you may be, many thanks to Hugo
for the kind words from down under. I had no idea that I could move folks on the
other side of the world, but that's JUST what music is SUPPOSED to do. Gene, this
one's for you...'you f*#$%n up'...'african son, the only salvation for us all'...!

A little shorter this time, but jam packed nonetheless...

A little shorter this time, but jam packed nonetheless...
in joy

Before I say anything about this show, I'd first like to thank any and all of you
that have helped this podcast, the Sunshine, to continue it's illumination through inspiration
or admiration.
Anyone that's turned a friend on, cruised to it in your car, worked out or worked
easier at the office, had conversations, discussions or debates about the songs,
has an Ipod, Zune or whatever, has subscribed to it, has it posted on your
myspace page, had sex to it, cleaned up or studied to it(MMMMMaya),
been out to my live sets, has ever bought a CD, live in different cities,
know me as Shawn and E, remember my first internet show called "Eklektika",
wanna hear more, or generally and genuinely give a damn bout good music;
this bud's for you(sipped or smoked)! The weekly listeners have increased tremendously
within the last month alone, and I'm truly grateful. As of now, the show is counting between
5 and 600 weekly listeners with no advertising, just good people saying good things. I do this
specifically FOR YOU!

This ep, after wanting to play way more songs than the time would allow for, is done in the
usual manner, strictly up to my mood and flow and sways from Jazz openers to Electronica closers, with
a whole lotta Soul in between.
Philly based musicians ?uestlove,Christian McBride and Uri Caine from the Experiment, and King
Britt from 20,000 leagues beneath the sea, Scuba diving with I:(not ice)Cube are in the peripherals, and
a tinge of grime appears in the rhyme on the late J Dilla's "Jungle love' and from Tennesee's
rude boy, Count Bass D(T Boz tried to talk to him, do your homework!).
Nu joints appear here as well from St. Louis' most animated Soul singer and bassist, Wildmann, as
well as one from the multi-talented purple
witness, Prince Roger Nelson. Big up Dujuan for requesting "Mr.Goodnight" at the Lamar Harris set last Friday
nite... and keep singing to the Mrs. 'round the house.
Oh and please forgive the jibberish as I sign off. In the immortal words of Talaam Acey,
'I'd rather be an artist than a 'personality''... or maybe an artist with personality.
Yeah... sumn' like that. You'll have a "Beautiful Tomorrow"
(peace T.T.)if you just can stop the things you'll do today. Help's on the way.

enjoy
